Well it's very late and I should have been in bed some time ago. I've been actually 'playing' with my computer for once. I spend so much time in front of these things at work that I don't really do it much at home but recently I sorted out my home office so that it's a more comfortable environment to sit and work.

This evening I've been thinking about IRC clients, firewalls, and tunnelling. The aim here is to be able to IRC occasionally from work. I used to use ssh but port 22, the ssh port was blocked for my home network and so I used a friends network to get out. So they turned off port 22 entirely. Aparently it's "safer" to use telnet. Madness! I suspect it's because they can't snoop on encrypted connections and they are worried about data getting out. That's daft as well especially when you can buy small USB data sticks which hold 256Mb or more for a few tens of quids/dollars. I hate network nazis especially when I know more about network security than they do.

I've also been playing with audioscrobbler, the audio logging 'tool'. Early results seem to confirm that I'm a sad old goff! You can find my statistics at:
