I feel strangely euphoric right now. This may be because it's a gorgeous day here in Airedale. The sky is blue, the sun is out and the world seems full of smiley happy people. It may because I've drunk too much Diet Coke this morning or it may be because I feel I'm treading the usual thin line between sanity and madness that I tread on a Friday. It could possibly even be that I feel a plan is comming together.

Many moons ago, well last July to be precise, when I took over this team I had various plans in mind. All important work that needed to be done. Now some people may consider me crazy to plan two releases at the same time. But as I've never done this job before what do I know. I did plan two releases and, just because it was a good date, we set the day before our Team Chrimble Dinner, i.e. Monday, as release day. Well bugger me if we're not on target and it's all under control. Not only that the timing is just right for the customers and users who are going to use the work. They've just started asking questions about it. Some may consider this luck but me, being without ego, knows it's just pure skill.

Anyway, what every the reason I'm a real happy bunny today.

Last night at about 01:00 we were woken up by the sound of heavy reving coming from outside of the house. Thinking it was the scumbags back to nick the car we checked out the front. The car was still there and appeared undamaged so back to bed we went.

This morning I was up early to put out both the rubbish and recycling wheely bins. The recycling guys seem to do our street at about 07:30 and as they only do it evey four weeks so it's either miss it or get up. While I was out I noticed a MK2 Golf GTI parked on the lane. It had been parked in such a place as to block the eight or ten households on our little bit of road together with their cars. On one side of the gold was the hedge and the wall which runs down the side of the lane, on the other side a grassy knoll of the type you stand on to kill presidents. Further investigation showed that some theives had broken the quarter light and obviously stolen the car only to abandon it last night and this is what we had heard.

I phoned the Police reporting it and that it was blocking our way out. Nothing happened except for a bunch of kids who, as obvious as anything and right in front of me, walzed up to the car, opened the drivers door and walked off with a couple of footballs they had found inside. I warned them off watched them leave and then went to tell Molly and [livejournal.com profile] lisaparratt just how cheeky these kid had been. When I came back out they were back again. They saw me and this time ran off. I went and checked the car and found it was full of footballs. May be the car had been used as the getaway car in a robbery of a football factory. More likely it had been stolen from outside a sports hall or possibly the pub after a game.

Anyway about fourty five minutes later apart from the kids even more nothing had happened and so I phoned them again impressing that it was blocking access for emergency and service vehicles. Still further nothing happened and then cars started to turn up to try and get out and bin wagons to try and get in. So I phoned them again and said I need to move the car, they said it was OK so I moved it. I last saw it sat outside our house before I headed off to work.

What is wrong with the bloody kids of today?
