A lovely piece, though it's a pity a little more thought wasn't put into the effort by the organisers. It's not like there're many young girls in the "blogosphere", or the twittering classes. Even if there were, it'd be preaching to the choir. More effort should have been made to take this to the people who matter. Instead, the whole thing comes across as a bit self-congratulatory on behalf of the blogging sorority. At the very least, the thing should have been couched as collating the posts, picking the best, and submitting them to, for example, teenaged girl magazines as a set of, say, 3 microarticles. Perhaps the posts should have been written as letters to the editor, and sent to as many (inter)national newspapers as possible? Instead, it seems to me to merely assuage the authors feeling of guilt that they're not inspiring the next generation, without actually doing anything about it.
