It appears that the cookie support on my PDA is slightly flakey. I couldn't log in to LiveJournal from it's web browser. I need to read up and see whether I can read LJ from a posting client. Unfortunately there's not a client available but it does have Personal Java so it's not a major issue to write one.

There's something wrong with your clock. You posted before I posted! As for a LJ/NNTP front end or what ever, as a paid user you probably would have more control over the formatting which would mean you could come up with a way of parsing the output.

Don't know about clocks - it's a works clock.

As for formatting - indeed, I'd have more control over *my* journal, but then that was never the problem. It's those aggravating other people who mess it all up.
