Well the MIDP 1.0 client didnt work! Lets see if this is any more successful. I really must get on and finish that personal java/CDC personal basis client I have been working on and the I suppose I need to do one for phones.

For extra sadness, I shall comment from my phone. Simple web interface though, so not that clever.

Why? Because we can. We Are Technology-geeks, You WiII Be Assimilated!

Which web interface are you using because when I try read LJ using my PDA I always have problems because of the frames. There's something that LJ doesn't like because the left/right scroll bar in the browser doesn't appear and so I can't read all of the text. I think the browser must be buggy because it also doesn't remember the cookies most of the time either.

Opera on a P800. It's a lot nicer than the browser that comes with the P800.

Well obviously they've improved Opera for mobiles. On my Zaurus it's a pile of pants! Basically it doesn't seem to ever quite finish the page (it sits there waiting for stat.livejournal.com) and until it's finished it wont create the left/right scroll bar and so I can only see the left hand side of the page.

Interesting. Opera on my P800 has a kind of "sensibly try to fit it into one window" functionality. Rather than creating frames and pages with horizontal scroll bars, it tries to 'sensibly' fit the page into one long, thin page that you only need to vertically scroll. It works *really well* on all the pages I frequently use (i.e. LJ, imdb.com [settling film arguments in pubs is a common use for my P800!]). I believe it's a configurable option, although I've never had cause to switch it off.

It's similar to the way I find myself using IE and Mozilla. I use Mozilla all the time, but sometimes have to use IE for those annoying pages that rely on some IE only feature. I use Opera nearly all the time, flipping to the built-in browser only for the odd page that really doesn't work well with Opera.

Really? I'm all ears!

I have used a WAP client on and off on my T610, that only seems to work once in a blue moon (TapJam - more often than not I get 404 errors when I try to access it). Can anyone suggest a better one - or are there any Java clients already out there...?

And yep, we are all techy as hell now. The best way :-)

(By the way, were you at WH last Sat - I seemed to have seen everyone I know except you...?)

I've been using the MOJO WAP portal as I couldn't get Tapjam to work. There is one MIDP client listed on the LJ site and that looks pretty crap. It didn't work with my T610 and aparently has only been tested on the emulator. As I used to be paid to write Java I thought I could have a better go and as I'm already half way through a Personal Java/Basis CDC version for my PDA there's much that can probably be reused between the versions and so it can become a generally solution.

As for Wendyhouse, yes I was there from about 10.30. I talked with people until about midnight before dancing away in the main room for almost two hours before finishing off in the bleep room for the rest of the night.
